“Curl” is such a common word yet holds massive meaning to a stylist.
Lily Nieves, Curly Hair expert at Cre8 Salon and Spa, says that “no two curls are alike.” Many factors play into how each person should treat their curls. Are they natural? What is their texture? Are they wavy, curly, or spiraled? Each of these and much more play a role in how you should treat your curls to get the most bounce out of them.
We’re going to take you through a two part series to determine what works best for your curls.
Women with straight hair have longed for naturally curly hair with soft bouncy curls and seek perms or permanent waves, for the ease, convenience, and playfulness that perfect curls provide. As far as products, what works for one curly girl will not necessarily work for another. Products are very specific to hair type and the type of S wave the curl is made of. Curly hair types consist of the following Wavy 2A. Wavy 2B. Wavy 2C. Curly 3A. Curly 3B. Curly 3C. Kinky 4A. Kinky 4B. Kinky 4C. If that sounds confusing to you, don’t worry, our curly hair experts will explain what type of curls you have and what your perfect curl care regimen is.
Lily, normally likes to work with someone’s hair using different products to see how the curls respond and then while diffusing will know exactly what your hair routine should be. Curly hair is not something you can recommend a routine or regimen for without working with it first.
Morning hair will also differ for each curly girl. Most can do a pineapple to sleep with a loose ponytail or invisi- booble . Lily’s curls she can just fluff or refresh with Redken One United or Pureology Color Fanatic or Arrojo Hydro Mist. Some need dry shampoo to extend the time between shampoos.
To love your curls, she recommends a haircut that will help enhance the curl you have and the products that work for your hair type. Consistent haircuts every 6-8 weeks. Having a haircut that will create a beautiful shape. No triangles or bowls or Christmas tree curl shapes.
